Self Portrait of Liz Enjoying TeaAbout the StudioLiz Ness Studio inspires, entertains, and develops the storyteller within, focusing on expression through photography and modern memory keeping.
About Me (Liz)It started when I was young. My grandfather kept many family photographs (some dating all the way back to the Civil War!) and was an avid photographer and a home movie enthusiast. In addition, my grandmother and parents enjoyed capturing our lives through photos which they committed to scrapbooks. These books, cultivated a love for visual stories early on. Then, when I was about eight, I was presented with a camera of my own and a journal. Right away, I began collecting (and fabricating) my own stories through photographs and words. Then, at 14 my parents gave me a film camera, projector, and screen for my eighth-grade graduation. What an awesome gift!
Now as writer, photographer, and visual artist, I illustrate the stories of my life via photography, mixed media, and prose (sometimes with and sometimes without my computer). While most of my stories investigate love, optimism, and personal beliefs, others focus on sorrow, regret, and worry for things I cannot change or control. Some of the stories are pure fiction and arrive from quirky notions, such as:
What if the moon watched over me? Then, there are the short stories; single moments captured: A distinct mood, the beauty of a flower, a rusty car sun-bathing in the desert.
Meandering or short, each story reflects what it is to be alive and human. Yet, each one seems incomplete until shared. To me, the story's development is informed by the experiences of those observing the art. Therefore, it is in connecting with others that my stories reach their full potential.
